How I stayed consistent
Consistency in losing weight and increasing energy was a challenge for me and to overcome inconsistencies and demotivation, I started small and gradually increased my routine. I first started eating healthier meals, avoiding junk food and eating more vegetables. I had also aimed to go to the gym at least twice a week, even if it wasn't my best effort. Once I had mastered this habit, I increased the amount of healthy meals I had, buying from the grocery store to prep meals. I began going to the gym 4-5 days a week to maintain consistency and make it a habit and researched specific workouts to maximize weight loss while maintaining health and energy. The consistency of going to the gym and eating healthy increased as it became more of a natural action for me everyday.
Motivation
I struggled with maintaining motivation for eating healthy and going to the gym, even eventually stopping because I was too lazy. Yet after a while I kept thinking about it and tried to regain motivation by improving my relationships with friends and seeking support. I had discovered that having friends join me at the gym provided more motivation, since "The more a person feels... related to others, the more intrinsically motivated they will be."(2). As time went on, the improvements in my health and physical body motivated me to do even more because I was so proud of how far I had come. This led to a natural need for me to continue going to the gym and eating well daily. My motivation to maintain my gym routine and maintain my health and fitness all started small but became a bigger thing as I felt more accomplished.
