Beginning to End
I needed to change a lot of my behaviors, which troubled me because I had been comfortable with what I was doing for so long. At first, I would always stay home because I was too tired to go out, maybe it was lack of sleep or a lack of drive to invite people to hang out because all my friends are fit and I am not. This drove me to shy away from involving myself. I'd always be on my laptop, playing games or watching anything, and I'd eat everything I could get my hands on without ever feeling full. It was after I had started going to the gym and trying more with my health, things improved over time, and I began taking nighttime walks, which also made me tired and made it too late to eat. This caused me to gain less weight because the majority of your weight increase occurs when you eat before sleeping. I also go out more often, so I don't have as much time to eat, but going to the gym makes me hungry, so I can't bring myself to starve. I improved my diet as well to make sure I was getting the right proteins to feed myself well but not gain weight too easily. Now I go out nearly all the time as well as go to the gym daily, since "habits, scientists say, emerge because the brain is constantly looking for ways to save effort… the brain will try to make almost any routine into a habit."(3). I have successfully tricked my brain into doing something positive. It really has improved my health both physically and mentally, I didn't have much hope but when I got the motivation and support I needed, it became something that made me happy and gave me more energy. In the end I have formed my very own "habit loop" where if I'm eating unhealthy or if I drive by the gym or see anything related to the gym and I didn't go that day it would cause me to really want to go, and if I don't, I feel less happy with my day.
